Academic Council

The Academic Council is the academic body of the University; it coordinates and exercises supervision over the policies and programmes of the University. The Vice-Chancellor of the University is the chairman of the council, presiding over the meetings. It is composed of Deans, Heads of Departments, Scientists, Academicians, Technocrats, and Industrialists, all of whom are nominated by the Chancellor.

Powers and functions of the Academic Council:

1. Co-opting members with knowledge and experience in the particular domain for academic transactions.
2. Teaching, research, and related activities are promoted at the University.
3. General supervision is exercised over the academic policies and programmes of the university.
4. Directions are provided for the method of undertaking research and improving academic standards to facilitate academic transactions.
5. Proposal to the Governing Body to allocate funds for conducting research.
6. Proposal to the Governing Body for instituting fellowships, scholarships, exhibitions, medals, and prizes, and for making rules for their implementation.
7. Recognizing persons of eminence in the subject domains to be associated as research guides/co-guides in the interdisciplinary and multi-disciplinary subjects as prescribed in the ordinance.
8. The schemes for the organization must be formulated, modified, and revised for the faculties/schools/departments and reported to the Governing Body for approval.
